Last week of the season already? Just in time for a PERSONAL RECORD!
The defending FAVC Champions Kings Lady Knights closed out the 2011-12 season by visting Milford and Glen Este.
At Milford, the 12-1 (FAVC) Freshman girls opened up play facing the only FAVC team to beat the KLK and both teams were looking to claim sole possession of first place. The battle was fierce and the Lady Knights had the edge at half-time as the defense rattled the Eagles, but an absent 3rd quarter allowed the home team to take a 6 point lead into the 4th and the 9th graders fall 4 points short at the end. An impressive season for the best record of the basketball trio of teams. KLK Freshman end their season 12-5, overall 12-2 in FAVC play.
The JV lost at home to Milford in January in a close battle, so the team came out fighting but never really seemed to gain momentum. A rally in the 4th quarter kept the hopes up but again fell short to the tough home team and JV lose this one 25-32.
When Varsity played the red hot Eagles at home in January, it was a buzzer beater by Haley Delaney that stunned the visitors with only their second loss of the season. The game was full of energy from the opening tip with several lead changes and the KLK leading at the half. But one bad quarter of production from the blue and white was all the home team needed to gain momentum and close the game with a 7 point victory, handing the Varsity their 7th loss of the season. Final 34-41 GAME STATS
The season ends on the road at Glen Este with two out of the three squads visiting the land of Purple. The JV wanted to close out their season on a winning note and they delivered! The JV came out with speed and determination and never let the home team get any advantage. JV finishes the year with their second win over GE 31-23. Final record 10-9, 10-6 FAVC.
When GE came to the K-house on January 11th, the difference in the game was the missed free throws in the last moments of the game that allowed the KLK to maintain a 1 point lead and get the W. This time, the Trojans were not going to allow that to happen as they dominated 3 quarters of play and with a 12 point lead going into the fourth, the game was favoring the home team. Enter the varsity scoring machine as they outscored the home team 22-10 to close the gap and take the game into the second OT of the season. But as in the previous game in January, the free throw shooting proved to the difference again, but favoring the home team this time. Final 67-69. GAME STATS
Despite the loss HALEY DELANY was red HOT as her production in Glen Este puts her in the spotlight with 28 POINTS! This Junior went 9 for 15 inside the arc and 2-4 outside of it, and hit 8 out of 13 free throws. WAY TO GO HALEY!!

Walnut Hills and Anderson review
Last week, the second to last week of the season, the KLKB program went to Walnut Hills and then hosted Anderson.
At WH, the Varsity claims one of the best statistical games of the season as they went 50% from the field, and 66% from 3pt range. Abby Bush was on fire with 13 points and went 6 for 6 at the line. Followed by Claire Sichterman with 9, the Bruns sisters: Michelle and Laura matched with 7, Haley Delaney with 4, Mac Seiter, Stephanie Wehmer with 3 and Madi Bauer with 2. Final 48-39. GAME STATS
Saturday Feb 4 marked the last home game for the seniors of the KLKB team. Although the official Senior recognition occurred the week previously, the emotions for the seniors were, no doubt, very obvious. The visiting Anderson Redskins came out with a charge and never relented, until the 4th quarter when the varsity scored more points in the final stanza than the previous 3 to close the differential to 13. Props to Haley Delaney as she scored 13 points and went 3-4 at the charity stripe. Final 52-39. GAME STATS
The Freshman build on a 6 game win streak and open the day of games with a huge win over the Anderson Frosh. The game was about as complete of a game as the 9th graders have executed and a huge shout out to BIANCA OTENG as she was beaming with pride after scoring her first points of the season. Congrats to the entire Freshman team as they improve to 12-4 on the season: Bianca Oteng, Libby Coleman, Grace Wolf, Jordan Philpot, Colleen Riesing, Brooke Renner, Patrice DiPasquale, Jenna Maschino, Kiley Maxwell, and Brianne Gray. With one game remaining at Milford on Weds, 2/8, the Eagles were the last team to beat the Frosh back on January 7th, so the team is looking for some payback to close the season on a winning note.

WE LOVE OUR SENIORS!

On Saturday January 28th, the KLKB team celebrated our SENIORS! HALEY WALTER, LAURA HARSNETT, MICHELLE BRUNS, ABBY BUSH, STEPHANIE WEHMER, and KATIE STEVENS.
The 3 teams faced the Turpin Spartans for the second time this season. The FRESHMAN started out with a great victory, which featured LIBBY COLEMAN with her first 4 points of the season! Way to go team! Record improves to 11-4.
JV had a convincing win against the Spartans in December, but fell short at the buzzer, record falls to 8-7.
In their first OT game of the season in December, the Varsity lost to Turpin and looked to take revenge, but the zone and low shooting percentages were the challenges that kept the varsity from the win. FINAL: 51-40. Record falls to 8-8 overall, 7-5 in FAVC.

Mason at Kings, Freshman shine
On Weds. Jan 18th, the power forwards from Mason, Brianna Glover and Kayla McDowell, at 6’1″ and 6’2″ respectively, managed to score more points than the entire KLK team scored for the game. Glover and McDowell combined for 29 points and the height, speed of the visiting team was simply no match for the Knights. Despite a fairly tight 1st quarter, with 3 lead changes, once the Comets got into their groove, the KLK had no answer to any shots, going only 11-40 from the floor. Varsity takes this on the chin and moves to 7-6 on the season. FINAL: 54-26.
KLK STATS COMETS STATS
The JV had a strong start and gave the Comets a good run. Scoring from Sarah Palmer, Kiley Maxwell, Brianne Gray, Arden Jestice, and Riley Brashear kept the hopes alive, but the fast breaks and layups caught up to the team at the end. The JV streak of 2 losses in a row is the first of the season, moving to 7-6 with a 38-26 final.
The stars of the night were the freshman as they take out the Comets. This defensive battle was so tight with more passing and movement of the ball in the back court, that there was very little shooting to be had and not single foul shot taken in the first half by either team. The half time score was 6-6. Sometimes a good halftime break is what a team needs to get ‘er goin’ and that’s what the Frosh did as they scored 9 points to only Mason’s 3 points in the third stanza and hang on to use up the clock as Mason tried to rally, but the KLK Freshman prevail and finish the game 17-20. Kiley Maxwell gets high fives with 9 points followed by Brooke Renner with 5 and Jenna Machino and Brianne Gray with 2 each. Freshman improve to 9-4 on the season.

Holiday break and Freshman on a 3 game win streak, JV and Varsity struggle
There wasn’t much of a Holiday break for the Lady Knights as the Freshman just completed their third game since the break began, going 3 for 3 and outscoring their opponents 115-53. Tonight at Ross, the 9th graders faced their toughest opponent, but had an easy time of it winning 35-23.
Last night, Weds 12/28, the Frosh opened up play at Fairfield with a convincing win over the Indians 42-16. The JV, (5-2) plagued with turnovers and sloppy play, hung with the home team, but just couldn’t bring it to victory and drop their record to 5-3 in the 21-25 final.
The Varsity, facing a tough GMC team and outstanding D1 recruit in Raeshaun Gaffney, struggled in the first quarter and trailed by 8, but managed 2 very strong quarters to hang with the Indians and close the gap to as little as 2 points. The 4th quarter was the demise of the team as the Knights only managed 4 points to Fairfield’s 17. Gaffney ends the evening with 30 points, and the Indians beat the Knights 39-57. GAME STATS
Production from the KLK players came mostly from Abby Bush (9 pts) and Madi Bauer (9 pts) who also went 5-6 at the line.

Next up for the KLK is at Anderson on WEDS JAN 4. Come to this classic matchup as the 4-4 Knights face the 4-4 Redskins. It promises to be a rollercoaster! Will Waldo show up??? Watch WALDO lead the ROLLERCOASTER at AHS last year!

Freshman make a statement with big win in Loveland
Wed Nov 30th, 2011 at Loveland
The Freshman traveled to Loveland to face the Tigers with the Lebanon loss fresh in their memory. The team came out competitive and ready to play, but the Tigers had an answer for every Knight score. Field goals from Jenna Maschino, Jordan Philpot, and Patrice DiPasquale marked a first quarter score 6, Loveland 6.
In the second quarter, any spark that the Tigers had was quickly extinguished by the visitors as Loveland only managed a field goal in the period. The Knight charge was led by the sharp shooting of Jordan Philpot, scoring 6 of the 11 quarter points, along with Grace Wolf, Colleen Riesing and Brooke Renner contributing to the score. The Frosh had a confident lead going into the locker room 17-8.
The adjustments made at the half, only allowed the momentum to continue through the remainder of the game. In the third, Jenna, Patrice and Colleen accounted for the 9 points of the quarter, which was 6 more than the home team.
The Lady Knights led by 17 points at the start of the 4th quarter and the mistakes learned from the game only 4 days prior, allowed the 9th grade team to execute a better closing plan and to maintain the lead and finish strong 32-16.
After the game, Coach Hoffert was pleased, “I thought it was a great team effort from everyone!”

Frosh game down to the wire, lose the season opener at Lebanon
The 2011-2012 season for the Freshman Lady Knights began on Saturday Nov 26 at Lebanon HS. In the first quarter, there was alot of ball movement by both teams, but not alot of scoring. Colleen Reising accounted for the first 2 points, off of free thows, in the first quarter, Knights up 2-1.
The girls came alive in the second quarter and saw excellent production by stealing, rebounding, assisting and scores coming from Jenna Machino, Brooke Renner, Patrice DiPasquale, Grace Wolf and Jordan Philpot. The team had a convincing 16-3 lead at half.
The third quarter action was tight and slow with the only 2 field goals coming from Brianne Gray and Lebanon getting 3 points. However, as the 4th quarter started with a 14 point lead by the Knights, Lebanon found a second wind from quick scoring and spurts of energy. With Grace Wolf scoring the only field goal for the visitors in the final stanza, a clutch 3 point shot by the home team, down the stretch, with 1:05 remaining, tied the game. The momentum from Lebanon continued to the end and the 9th grade team take the season opener on the chin losing 22-24.
Next up for the Lady Knights is Weds. Nov 30, atLoveland, 4:30 tip, with the home opener on Saturday Dec 3rd at 4:30, JV at 6:00 and Varsity at 7:30.

Here’s the dish on the Frosh, 2011-2012
2011-2012
Kings Lady Knights Freshman Team
The Class of 2015 hails plenty of experience on the hardcourt with a core of players who have been playing basketball since 3rd and 4th grade.
Because of the balance of the team in all positions, fans will see plenty of assisting, scoring, rebounding, and stealing by many players. The frosh are a well-rounded group of athletes led by captains Brianne Gray and Kiley Maxwell, both playing Guard, along with Brooke Renner, who, between the three of these girls, bring great vision and speed to this spot.
The height and speed of the forwards come from the likes of Jenna Machino and Patrice Dipasquale partnered with aggressive defensive pressure coming from forwards Grace Wolf and Jordan Philpot.
Completing the roster to add to the depth of the team are guards Carissa Freeman and Colleen Reising, center Libby Coleman and returning to the hardcourt after a couple years absence from a back injury is forward Bianca Oteng.
Leading the charge is Head Coach Stacy Hoffert and Assistant Kelli Warden.
