Weds. Jan 11, the Glen Este Trojans at KHS: How important is it to make your free throws? Laura Bruns went to the line with 1 minute left in the game and made 2 free throws to give the KLK’s a 1 point lead.  With a quick GE score and now trailing by 1, the KLK drove down the court and then Haley Delaney was fouled and sent to the line.  BOOM and BOOM, Kings back to a 1 point lead.  With .2 seconds left on the clock, GE’s Katie Gaskill was fouled and sent to the line with the Trojans down by one.  As a result of 2 missed free throws, the Varsity completed the sweep of the trio of games on this night, winning 48-49.

How important is it to make your free throws? Abby Bush went 4-4, Michelle Bruns 2-2, Laura Bruns 3-4, Haley Delaney 2-3, Steph Wehmer 1-2.  As a team the KLK went 12 for 15, where GE went just 15-32. Games are won and lost at the line, and we’ll take them any way we can get them.  Record improves to 6-5 on the season and 5-3 in the FAVC.

GAME STATS

In the middle game of the night, the JV came out strong against a slower GE team and entered the lockerroom with a 6 point lead.  But GE’s adjustments slowed the KLK’s production in the third to take a brief lead.  However, the fourth quarter reignited the spark that has helped the JV do so well all season and Riley Brashear, Alyssa Johnson, Arden Justice and Sarah Palmer, poured on the heat to close this story 25-36.  Record improves to 7-4.

The Freshman saw a rematch with a young Western Brown team.  In the first meeting in December, the 9th graders had no troubles with the Bronco’s and sailed to an 18 point victory.  And the game from Weds would be nearly identical.  Brooke Renner’s speed and finesse landed her 12 points to lead the team, followed by Patrice DiPasquale 8, Brianne Gray 6, Jenna Maschino, Colleen Reising and Grace Wolf all match 4 points each.  Final 22-40, records improves to 7-4.

Eight different players scored for the Lady Knights. Jackie Baronti, Abbey Clark, and Jordin Littles were the top scorers with 6 points each. Congratulations to all the Lady Knights!

The Eagles of Milford soared into the K house on Saturday Jan 7th with an 8-1 record, tied for first in the FAVC , and one of the top shooters in the conference, Morgan Wolcott.  The Eagles took quick flight with a 6 point lead going into the lockerroom at half . But the adjustments that the Varsity made allowed the Eagles to only score 5 points in the third and to rally in the 4th to close the gap. At the buzzer, a 3-pointer by HALEY DELANEY  inked the deal for the Lady Knights and the home team stunned the visitors by winning the game with one point to spare, 36-37. Varsity improves to .500 on the season with a 5-5 record.

GAME STATS

In the earlier games, the Freshman allowed the Eagles to score the first 5 points unanswered, but turned on the intensity and entered the lockerroom tied at 10.  But the battle wore the Knights at the end as they lost this contest by 15.  Record is now 6-4.

The JV had most of their production from Riley Brashear, Sarah Palmer, Christine Harris and Arden Jestice, but couldn’t manage to hang on at the end losing 28-21, bringing record to 6-4.

The 8th grade Lady Knights defeated Loveland Wednesday night to remain unbeaten for the season.  They are now 6 – 0.  The Lady Knights came out with some intensity to start the game 12 – 2, but Loveland battled back to make it 16 – 12 at halftime.  After a few adjustments in the locker room, the Lady Knights built their lead back up to 10 with one quarter to play.  Loveland brought the pressure in the 4th quarter, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Knights went on to win 30 – 24.

It was another balanced scoring attack with seven different players scoring.  Kira Doebereiner led the way with eight points, while Nicole Williams and Emily Lima each had six.  Sammy Kettler and Taylor Bates scored three, and Rachel Bernard and Jenna Lace each scored two.  “This was an intense game from start to finish.  I am proud of our team’s effort tonight.  They kept their composure when things started to get crazy.  All their hard work over the break is paying off,” said Coach Costlow after the game.  The Lady Knights resume their schedule Monday, January 9th at Walnut Hills.

Weds. Jan 4th, 2012 marked a new year and a new player to hit the hardwood for the Varsity, Mackenzie Seiter, a JR who had been on injury reserve from rehabing a knee injury.  Her spark on the floor was contageous and she looked great hitting a big 3 pointer in the second quarter to help close the gap of a strong Anderson beginning.

The Redskins came out with guns blazing as they rattled off the first 7 point of the game unanswered and the Varsity struggled to find consistency in their shooting.  The Ladies rallied the entire game, trailing by as little as 2, but the Orange and Black were just no match in the showcase game of the night, losing 37-45.  GAME STATS

In the first two games of the evening, the Freshman opened up the night with a complete breakdown of their opponent, shutting them out completely in the 4th quarter.  Improving record to 6-3, the Frosh keep winning streak alive with 4 in a row, final score 35-16.

In the middle game, the JV played a tight game, with never more than a 4 point variance between the teams, but bring it on to keep the lead at the stretch and bump their record to  6-3 with the 24-21 victory.

NEXT UP: SATURDAY at KHS, the Milford Eagles will fly in for a visit to the big K house at 11:30/1:00/2:30 games. SEE YOU THERE!

Wittenberg Tigers and Wilmington Quakers face off in the championship game of the Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic at Wittenberg University on Fri.  Dec. 30, at 4:30.  A Holiday tourny in Springfield, OH may not seem like big news, but this match up features two Kings Lady Knights alums Shelby Kies (’09) who is a JR at WC and Katelyn Haralamos (’11), a Freshman at Witt.

In the first game, Kies, one of the 5 starters,  and her Quaker-mates faced Brescia and maintained a lead most of the game, but with Brescia tying the game with only 5 minutes remaining, the Quakers poured it on to win by 8.  Final 51-59.  WILMNGTON GAME STORY

In the second game of the tourny, Harlamos, one of 3 freshman starters, had a fairly easy time with their opponent, Rose-Hulman, and scored all of her 14 points in the second half.  Katelyn was featured in the post game story out of Wittenberg: WITTENBERG GAME STORY

There wasn’t much of a Holiday break for the Lady Knights as the Freshman just completed their third game since the break began, going 3 for 3 and outscoring their opponents 115-53.  Tonight at Ross, the 9th graders faced their toughest opponent, but had an easy time of it winning 35-23.

Last night, Weds 12/28, the Frosh opened up play at Fairfield with a convincing win over the Indians 42-16.  The JV, (5-2)  plagued with turnovers and sloppy play, hung with the home team, but just couldn’t bring it to victory and drop their record to 5-3 in the 21-25 final.

The Varsity, facing a tough GMC team and outstanding D1 recruit in Raeshaun Gaffney, struggled in the first quarter and trailed by 8, but managed 2 very strong quarters to hang with the Indians and close the gap to as little as 2 points.  The 4th quarter was the demise of the team as the Knights only managed 4 points to Fairfield’s 17.  Gaffney ends the evening with 30 points, and the Indians beat the Knights 39-57. GAME STATS

Production from the KLK players came mostly from Abby Bush (9 pts) and Madi Bauer (9 pts) who also went 5-6 at the line.

Holiday Hoops in Fairfield

GIRLSHOOPSRULEVS

The KLKB teams make a trip west and visit Fairfield, on WEDS 12/28,  in a popular battle of GMC vs FAVC.   Despite their 1-6 overall record, the Indians boast one of areas top ballers in Raeshaun Gaffney, who scored 44 of the 65 points in their close 65-69 loss to the number one team in Cincinnati, Princeton.  Gaffney, a SR who averages 25.1 points/game will pose a big threat from all areas as she went 15 for 15 at the line at the Princeton outing.  So, the team record means nothing when the Knights BRING IT and open up Varsity play at 7:30, with JV at 6:00 and Frosh at 4:30.

Take a break from your holiday break and come support the Lady Knights! GO KNIGHTS!

On Saturday 12/17/11, the first day of the holiday break, the KLK spent the afternoon facing the Mustangs of Maderia and the Eagles of Walnut Hills.

Because the Eagles do not have a freshman team, Maderia came to play the freshman in the first outing.  Out of the shoot, the Lady Knights had control of this game, with as much as a 18 point lead. But reminiscent of the Lebanon game, this one slipped through their grip and a buzzer beater 3-pointer by the blue and gold took the win away from the home team, 30-28 final.

In game two, the JV kicked it in gear and didn’t look back.  The Eagles did not have an answer for the dominating performance by the reserves and take a 29 point lead to the house, winning 12-41.

The Varsity hit the floor in the final chapter and replayed the JV game, Varsity style.  Excellent production by several of the players, with Steph Wehmer, Laura Harsnett and Madi Bauer on the leader board, along with Haley Delaney continuing her successful long ball shooting.  Final 30-53.   GAME STATS
