The defending FAVC Champions Kings Lady Knights closed out the 2011-12 season by visting Milford and Glen Este.

At Milford, the 12-1 (FAVC) Freshman girls opened up play facing the only FAVC team to beat the KLK and both teams were looking to claim sole possession of first place. The battle was fierce and the Lady Knights had the edge at half-time as the defense rattled the Eagles, but an absent 3rd quarter allowed the home team to take a 6 point lead into the 4th and the 9th graders fall 4 points short at the end.  An impressive season for the best record of the basketball trio of teams. KLK Freshman end their season 12-5, overall 12-2 in FAVC play.

The JV lost at home to Milford in January in a close battle, so the team came out fighting but never really seemed to gain momentum.  A rally in the 4th quarter kept the hopes up but again fell short to the tough home team and JV lose this one 25-32.

When Varsity played the red hot Eagles at home in January, it was a buzzer beater by Haley Delaney that stunned the visitors with only their second loss of the season.  The game was full of energy from the opening tip with several lead changes and the KLK leading at the half.  But one bad quarter of production from the blue and white was all the home team needed to gain momentum and close the game with a 7 point victory, handing the Varsity their 7th loss of the season.  Final 34-41 GAME STATS

The season ends on the road at Glen Este with two out of the three squads visiting the land of Purple.  The JV wanted to close out their season on a winning note and they delivered! The JV came out with speed and determination and never let the home team get any advantage. JV finishes the year with their second win over GE 31-23. Final record 10-9, 10-6 FAVC.

When GE came to the K-house on January 11th, the difference in the game was the missed free throws in the last moments of the game that allowed the KLK to maintain a 1 point lead and get the W.  This time, the Trojans were not going to allow that to happen as they dominated 3 quarters of play and with a 12 point lead going into the fourth, the game was favoring the home team. Enter the varsity scoring machine as they outscored the home team 22-10 to close the gap and take the game into the second OT of the season. But as in the previous game in January, the free throw shooting proved to the difference again, but favoring the home team this time.  Final 67-69.  GAME STATS

Despite the loss HALEY DELANY was red HOT as her production in Glen Este puts her in the spotlight with 28 POINTS! This Junior went 9 for 15 inside the arc and 2-4 outside of it, and hit 8 out of 13 free throws.  WAY TO GO HALEY!!

WE LOVE OUR SENIORS!

On Saturday January 28th, the KLKB team celebrated our SENIORS! HALEY WALTER, LAURA HARSNETT, MICHELLE BRUNS, ABBY BUSH, STEPHANIE WEHMER, and KATIE STEVENS.

The 3 teams faced the Turpin Spartans for the second time this season.  The FRESHMAN started out with a great victory, which featured LIBBY COLEMAN with her first 4 points of the season! Way to go team! Record improves to 11-4.

JV had a convincing win against the Spartans in December, but fell short at the buzzer, record falls to 8-7.

In their first OT game of the season in December, the Varsity lost to Turpin and looked to take revenge, but the zone and low shooting percentages were the challenges that kept the varsity from the win.  FINAL: 51-40.  Record falls to 8-8 overall, 7-5 in FAVC.

GAME STATS

On Saturday January 21, 2012, the first ice storm blanketed the area, but it was only the outside world that was cold.  Inside the K-house, the JV, coming off two losses in a row, was smokin’ hot as the entire team contributed to a dominant performance against the visiting Hurricanes of Wilmington.  The JV beat Wilmington earlier in December on their home court by 12 points.  This time around the margin of victory was 19 as the home team takes the orange and black 28-47.  Nice job KLK JV: Riley Brashear, Cara Thomas, Alyssa Johnson, Audrey Farber, Arden Jestice, Christine Harris, Mackenzie Kruse, Sarah Palmer. Record improves to 8-6.

The Varsity, coming off a 26 point loss from the Mason Comets, again, struggled against a strong shooting opponent in the Hurricanes.  The sophmore duo of Savannah Hooper and Brianna Camp combined for 32 points, which for a second time in as many games, outscores the entire KLK team.   The achilles heal of the game was the shooting percentages where the team went 31% from the field.  Of great note was senior Stephanie Wehmer also looked good going 4 for 4 at the foul line and hitting 3 for 5 from the field and ringing in 10 points and sophmore Claire Sichterman who flourished in the 4th quarter to shoot 2 for 2 outside the arc and with another FG to end with 8 points.  FINAL 57-29, record moves to 7-7 overall, 6-4 in the FAVC.  GAME STATS

In the first game of the day, the Freshman hosted Ross in the second meeting of the season.  In December the Freshman had an easy time with the Rams beating them by 12, but this time around the Rams had an answer for the hot young freshman team, fortunately, in the end, the 9th graders prevail to take a 31-36 victory and improve to 10-4 on the season.

NEXT UP: Weds January 25th finds the KLK teams split in two with the Freshman hosting Springboro at KHS with a 4:30 tip off, and then the JV/Varsity traveling to Little Miami, where the Panthers will seek revenge from earlier losses to both JV and Varsity from their December meeting at the K-House.  Tip 6:00/7:30 LMHS.

Spartans Stop Knights

The Lady Knights were back on the road Wednesday evening as they traveled to league rival Turpin for a FAVC-Cardinal Division showdown.  It didn’t take the visitors very long to realize they were in for a long night as the home team jumped out to an 11-3 first quarter lead. The Knights were able to narrow that gap to 6 with a strong second quarter and went to the locker room down 18-12.
Arden Jestice came out of the locker room and dropped in 7 points during the third quarter. Unfortunately, Arden’s points were the extent of the Knight’s scoring while Turpin was dropping in 21. The Spartans didn’t let up in the final quarter and came away with a 50 – 27 victory.
Arden Jestice led the Knights in the scoring column with 15 while Kylie Maxwell netted 5. Sarah Palmer dropped in 4, Jenna Maschino contributed a deuce and Laura Bruns rounded out the scoring with a free throw.  The Knights made the most of their limited trips to the charity strip, going 4 of 5, for 80%.

Knights Pass Final Exam

Home-cooking and the end of final exams proved to be just what the doctor ordered as the Knights entertained the Eagles of Walnut Hills Saturday afternoon at the K-House.  The Knights jumped on the Eagles early and led 13-2 at the end of the first seven minutes of action.
During the Second Quarter, the Knights were assessed their first Technical Foul of the young season when it was discovered that one of the Lady Knight’s uniform numbers had been incorrectly entered into the scorebook. Later, it was discovered that she has different numbers for her away and home uniforms. While Coach Seymour and Coach Winebrenner discussed who this Technical Foul should be fairly assessed to, the Knight defense continued to hold strong and the home team went to the locker room with a 23-4 lead.
Realizing that two points is two too many to give up in a quarter,   the Knights shut the Eagles out in the third quarter and expanded their lead to 32-4. The Eagles found some offense in the final quarter, but it was not enough and the Knights came out on the smiling side of the scoreboard, 41 – 12.
Sarah Palmer dropped in 12 to lead the Knights. Audrey Farber and Christine Harris each poured in 6. Alyssa Johnson netted 5 for the home team while Arden Jestice and Mac Kruse each netted 4. Brianne Gray rounded out the Knight scoring with her only point of the afternoon.   The Knights finished 9 for 15 from the line for 60%.

Knights One and Done

The Lady Knights will hope for some offensive rebounding in a still-to-be-opened Christmas present, because it certainly wasn’t present on Wednesday evening at the Fairfield Arena for the visitors.  Second chance shots were non-existent for the Lady Knights as they found themselves behind 8-1 at the end of the first quarter. The Knights discovered their shooting touch in the second quarter and narrowed the Fairfieldlead to one, at 12-11, as the teams returned to their locker rooms for half-time adjustments.
Unfortunately, the Knights left their offense in the locker room and did not hit a field goal in the third quarter as they dropped behind 19-12. Still, the Knight Defense was keeping them in the contest, but the gap proved too much to overcome and the Indians came out victorious, 26-21.
Arden Jestice drained 7 for the Lady Knights. Alyssa Johnson dropped in 5 while Sarah Palmer and Christine Harris each netted 4. Jenna Mascino sank a free throw for her one point of the evening. Jenna received special praise from the coaches for her rebounding efforts on the defensive end.   Sarah Palmer also received special recognition for her overall performance. The Knights will need to focus on free throw shooting a little more as they struggled at the Charity Stripe going 5 for 13 (39%).

The Lady Knights didn’t waste any time on Saturday 12/10/11 evening as they jumped out to a 16-2 first quarter lead against the visiting Panthers of Little Miami. Arden Jestice, with both grandmas in the stands, drained three long-distance dedications from behind the arc, including two in a row during the second quarter.  Limousine services are being looked into so as to make sure both grandmas are at all future Lady Knight games.

The Knights opened the third quarter with a 28-7 lead and held the Panthers scoreless in the 3rd frame while tossing in 12 on the home end of the court. The Knights ran the offense well and Sarah Palmer benefitted with 6 points during her time on the court during this period.  With the outcome not in doubt, the Knights continued to play hard and came away with a 53-15 victory.
Arden Jestice led the Knights this evening with 18 while Sarah Palmer tossed in 14. Brianne Gray got into the double digit column with 10 points of her own. Jenna Maschino dropped in 5 while Allisa Johnson, Audrey Farber and Patrice Dipasquale rounded out the scoring with 2 points each. Mackenzie Kruse played a strong game on the boards and defensively to contribute to the Lady Knight victory.
The Knights (4-1, 3-0) will travel to Turpin on Wednesday evening to take on the always tough Spartans. Go Knights!

KNIGHTS HANDLE HURRICANE

The Lady Knights traveled deep into Hurricane Country Wednesday evening as they continued their quest of a FAVC-Scarlett Division Championship with a battle in Wilmington. The Knights were without the services of Cara Thomas who is still nursing an injured ankle following the Ursuline battle. Since Wilmington doesn’t have a freshman team, Lady Knight Frosh Briann Gray, Kylie Maxwell and Brooke Renner accompanied the JV Team to Clinton County.
The Knights knocked down 13 points in the first quarter, but the Hurricane stuck close helped in large part by three straight treys to open the game by Taylor Gauche, including a bank from the corner.  Not sure when that was last observed. However, the Knight Defense would rise to the occasion and young Miss Gauche would be held scoreless the remainder the evening. Meanwhile the Knights widen their lead to 21-13 at the half. The third quarter saw the visitors expand their lead to 14, at 32-18, as both teams went to their respective benches for final quarter instructions.  The Knights didn’t close out quite as effectively as Coach Seymour would have liked, but still came away with a nice 40 – 28 victory.
Alyssa Johnson led the Knight scoring attack with 10 points while Sara Palmer dropped in 9. Laura Bruns and Brianne Gray each nailed 6. Kiley Maxwell netted 4, Arden Jestice cashed in 3 and Audrey Farber rounded out the scoring with 2.  Brooke Renner received special mention during Coach Seymour’s post-game press conference for her play at point guard tonight. The Knights found the rims of the Wilmington Arena to their liking as they hit 8 of 11 attempts from the charity stripe.
The Knights (3-1, 2-0) will return to the friendly confines of the K-House on Saturday for a friendly battle with backyard rival Little Miami. Game time is 6 PM.

OUCH!

Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the other team. A talented Ursuline Academy team visited the

K-House on Saturday afternoon to provide the opponent for the Lady Knights’ home opener. It didn’t take

long for the Knight fans, players and coaches to realize this might get ugly as the Knights found

themselves down 20-6 at the end of the first quarter. The home team actually won the second quarter by

one and went to the locker room trailing 24-11.

Any hope of climbing back into the contest was dashed in the third quarter as Ursuline won the battle on

the boards and outscored the Knights 19-2. The Knights continued to play hard despite the score, but still

came up on the short end of the scoreboard, 51-16.

Alyssa Johnson and Mackenzie Kruse, each making their first appearances of the young season, dropped

in 4 apiece, as did Christine Harris. Arden Jestice tossed in a duce and Sarah Palmer and Laura Bruns

each had a point in the abbreviated Knight scoring report. The Knights will learn from this and get back

to work on Monday as they once again prepare to hit the road for a trip to Clinton County, on Wednesday,

and a FAVC battle with the Hurricane of Wilmington

KNIGHTS TAME TIGERS

The JV Lady Knights continued their opening season road trip on Wednesday by jumping over the backyard fence to take on the Tigers from Loveland.  Freshmen Sarah Palmer and Brooke Warner each contributed a bucket to help the Knights jump out to a 6-4 first quarter lead. Caity Adams came off the bench in the second quarter, with six points, to allow the Knights to hold a 16-12 lead going to the break.

The third stanza opened with a nice 10-0 run for the Knights and they took a ten point lead, 29-19, to the final quarter.  The Tigers tried to make a run of their own in the final quarter, but the Knights were able to answer the challenge and come away with a 40 – 31 victory.

Sarah Palmer gained scoring honors with 11 while Caity Adams tossed in 10.  Arden Jestice contributed 5 including another banked trey. Cara Thomas and Christine Harris each had 4 while Audrey Farber, Brooke Renner, and Brianne Gray each had a bucket. The Knights will be at the K-House on Saturday afternoon for their home opener as Ursuline comes to visit.

KNIGHTS TOP WARRIORS – BANK ON IT!

The JV Lady Knights opened their season on the road Saturday evening at Lebanon. The young Knights

showed some opening night jitters as they fell behind 9-6 at the end of the first quarter, but found the

basket to their liking in the second quarter, outscoring the Warriors 13-2, and taking a 19-11 lead to the

locker room.

Unfortunately the third quarter saw Lebanon gain the shooting advantage, outscoring the Knights 14-

4, and taking a two-point lead, 25-23, into the final stanza. It remained close as the clock ticked under a

minute. Lebanon held a 1-point lead as the Knights called a time out with 10 seconds remaining. A loose

ball resulted in many Knight hopes being dashed, but a great effort by Christine Harris to keep the ball

alive resulted in Arden Jestice having the ball outside the three-point arc with the clock quickly winding

down to zero. Arden let the ball fly towards the basket as the horn sounded. Just like in “Hoosiers” every

eye was on the ball as it banked off the glass and into the twine of the basket for a three pointer and a

Knight victory!

Caity Adams led the Knights in scoring with 8 while Christine Harris dropped in 7. Arden Jestice

contributed 5 while Audrey Farber, Sarah Palmer, Jenna Maschino and Brianne Gray each tossed in 4.

The Knights (1-0) will continue their road trip next Wednesday at Loveland.

FAVC TITLE…JV Style!

Equaling the Varsity season record, the JV Lady Knights finished the season 17-2 and earned the JV League title outright.

On Saturday, Feb 12, in the second stanza of the Glen Este visit, the JV proved with detemination and perseverance that no adversity or limitation was going to keep them from beating Glen Este. Despite a 12 point deficeit going into the half, the JV team yet, found another way to show off their will to win,  43 – 41 .

Going into the game the JV was without the services of Caity Adams and Riley Brashear due to injury and Mac Seiter was limited to 2 quarters because of her varsity time.  In the first half, the Knights did not have a true point guard and with the pressure Glen Este puts on opposing teams, it was going to be a tough task. Laura Harsnett, PJ Osborne, and freshmen Laura Bruns  (seeing her first JV action) stepped in and did a great job handling the point guard duties. The Knights were down 12 at the half 28 – 16 and looked like they were going to end the year with a loss.

However, after the locker room adjustments, the second half was a different story! The team mounted a comeback where they held Glen Este to 13 points in the second half.  Mac Seiter handled the Trojan pressure as she has all year and set up scoring opportunities for the Knights.  Freshmen Christine Harris ( seeing her first JV time) came off the bench and added key rebounds and points for the Knights.   The Knights entered the 4th quarter down 5 points and outscored the Trojans 15 – 8 in the 4th quarter.   The JV team was lead by Maddie Bauer with 12 points and Ollie Demumbrum with 11 points; and Laura Harsnett added 7 points in the victory.

Coach Seymour expressed his gratitude after the game, “I want to thank the girls for your dedication and hard work that lead to the memorable season.”
