There wasn’t much of a Holiday break for the Lady Knights as the Freshman just completed their third game since the break began, going 3 for 3 and outscoring their opponents 115-53.  Tonight at Ross, the 9th graders faced their toughest opponent, but had an easy time of it winning 35-23.

Last night, Weds 12/28, the Frosh opened up play at Fairfield with a convincing win over the Indians 42-16.  The JV, (5-2)  plagued with turnovers and sloppy play, hung with the home team, but just couldn’t bring it to victory and drop their record to 5-3 in the 21-25 final.

The Varsity, facing a tough GMC team and outstanding D1 recruit in Raeshaun Gaffney, struggled in the first quarter and trailed by 8, but managed 2 very strong quarters to hang with the Indians and close the gap to as little as 2 points.  The 4th quarter was the demise of the team as the Knights only managed 4 points to Fairfield’s 17.  Gaffney ends the evening with 30 points, and the Indians beat the Knights 39-57. GAME STATS

Production from the KLK players came mostly from Abby Bush (9 pts) and Madi Bauer (9 pts) who also went 5-6 at the line.

Holiday Hoops in Fairfield

GIRLSHOOPSRULEVS

The KLKB teams make a trip west and visit Fairfield, on WEDS 12/28,  in a popular battle of GMC vs FAVC.   Despite their 1-6 overall record, the Indians boast one of areas top ballers in Raeshaun Gaffney, who scored 44 of the 65 points in their close 65-69 loss to the number one team in Cincinnati, Princeton.  Gaffney, a SR who averages 25.1 points/game will pose a big threat from all areas as she went 15 for 15 at the line at the Princeton outing.  So, the team record means nothing when the Knights BRING IT and open up Varsity play at 7:30, with JV at 6:00 and Frosh at 4:30.

Take a break from your holiday break and come support the Lady Knights! GO KNIGHTS!

12/17/11 story coming soon

Saturday December 10th, 2011, marked the 25th anniversary week of a former Kings Lady Knights player who passed suddenly after a game.  Jenne Allen was a mere 17 years old with an entire future ahead of her when a terrible incident cut her young life short.  To commemorate the milestone, the KLK program provided a reception to family and friends before the game and paid tribute to the student athlete before the Varsity game.

The special evening began with a completely dominate showing by the JV in the first game, winning by a 38 point margin: 15-53.  In the second game, the Varsity continued the momentum and pounded the Panthers by 31 with the final being 31-63.

The Varsity game was hightlighted by the fact that every single player contributed points to the score.  Congratulations to Laura Harsnett marking her first varsity points with a three pointer and a free throw. Excellent all around team effort by the Lady Knights!.   GAME STATS

Next up: The Freshman return to game play after a week off of any contests. The team travels to Turpin on Wed. 12/14, frosh 4:30, JV 6:00, Varsity 7:30.

GO KNIGHTS!!

Although the battle against the LM Panthers is always tough, this evenings game will take on a sentimental feel to remember a former Kings Lady Knights player who passed suddenly 25 years ago, Jenee Allen.

In 1986, Kings varsity basketball player Jenee’ Allen collapsed during a basketball game at Ross High School and died two days later.  This week marks the 25th anniversary of this tragedy.  On Saturday, December 10th, the Kings women’s basketball team will dedicate their home game against Little Miami to her memory.  Jenee’ was an outstanding student, athlete and friend to many in the Kings community.  A moment of silence will be observed to honor Jenee’ prior to the national anthem Saturday evening.  Friends of Jenee’ are invited to meet in the commons area of the high school at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday for a celebration of her life.

6:00 JV game, 6:30 Reception in commons for Jenee, 7:30 Varsity game

Lady Knights find tough opponent atWilmington.

After a good win by the JV team 40-28, the varsity girls were ready for a battle they expected to be hard fought.  With a first quarter lead 13-12, the Knights had played every possession with high intensity, both offensively and defensively.  The second quarter began much the same, but the real undoing of the Knights, on this evening, was the balanced offensive attack of the Hurricanes, and combined with inside strength and outside 3 point shooting, which resulted in a halftime deficit of 17-33.

While the second half showed the coaching staff new aspects of the fight that is within the team, we still could not over come the gap. Final score 32-50.

The Knights were led in scoring by Abby Bush with 12 points, while she handled the offensive attack bringing the ball up much of the game.  A new scorer emerging from this game was Laura Bruns with 9 points.  She, likewise, handled the point and was key on some defensive plays with her speed, allowing her to get back while her teammates trapped the ball in the backcourt.

Every game is a test of the work accomplished in practice and this one gave us good feedback for the work to be done.  With 11 capable players we’ll key in on individual strengths and put together a balanced attack the next outing.

Next up: SATURDAY at KHS vs Little Miami. JV and Varsity only: 6:00/7:30 tips.  Come see the LADY KNIGHTS as they POUND THE PANTHERS!!!

On Saturday 12/3/11, the day started, for the Varsity, by eating pancakes and asking Santa to make their wish list come true. Can anyone say “Defend the title!”?

The Kings Lady Knights Varsity opened their season on the road at Lebanon HS on Saturday Nov 26.  With a diverse team of sophmores, juniors and flanked with the veteran seniors Abby Bush, Stephanie Wehmer, Michelle Bruns, the team came out of the shoot ready to attack and take control early.

The first quarter was fast paced with good defensive efforts on both teams, with not much scoring, except from the charity stripe as sophmores Laura Bruns (little sissy of Michelle), and Riley Brashear scored 1 and 2 pts respectively from the line, along with the sole field goal coming from junior Madi Bauer.

The second quarter saw production from the field from the likes of seniors Wehmer, Bush and Bruns, while junior Haley Delaney and sophmore Claire Sichterman both made free throws from the line.  The Lady Knights took at 4 point lead into the lockerroom at half.

The visiting team came out from the lockerroom with a passion,  scoring 16 points in the third. The younger Bruns and Bush scoring 4 each with Bauer, Sichterman and Wehmer contributing field goals. The lead grew to 10 with one stanza remaining.

In the fourth, the pace slowed as a more defensive battle ensued, Wehmer saw 3 trips to the charity stripe, scoring 3 points, Brashear had 1 point from the line, and Bush made a free throw and the only field goal of the last period.  The final score was 37-24.

Coach Karabinus starts the season in the win column:  ” I told our girls in the locker room before the game that our goal was very simple…..TO WIN the game tonight….It does not matter how or by how many, but we must get a win…..The first game is never pretty and after tonight half the teams in Ohio will be 0-1, and the other half will be 1-0.  Our girls worked very hard on the defensive end of the floor to get the victory.  I really liked how Steph Wehmer and Abby Bush played tonight.”

Additional players contributing to the success of the evening was sophmore Christine Harris, junior Caity Adams, and senior Laura Harsnett.

Great job Ladies!
