The 8th grade Lady Knights beat Walnut Hills Monday night 35 – 22. Kira Doebereiner and Taylor Bates were the leading scorers with seven points each. Rachel Bernard followed closely behind with six points. Kylie Hayes and Kylie Clendening each had four, Jenny Brown had three, and Emily Lima and Julianna Rizzo each had two. Kira and Taylor also led the way in rebounding with eight and six respectively. It was a good win for the Lady Knights as Walnut Hills played very aggressive and attacked the basket all night. “I think our offensive rebounding and second chance points really helped us get ahead in this game,” said Coach Costlow after the game. The Lady Knights outrebounded the Lady Eagles 33 – 12.
The 8th grade Lady Knights defeated Loveland Wednesday night to remain unbeaten for the season. They are now 6 – 0. The Lady Knights came out with some intensity to start the game 12 – 2, but Loveland battled back to make it 16 – 12 at halftime. After a few adjustments in the locker room, the Lady Knights built their lead back up to 10 with one quarter to play. Loveland brought the pressure in the 4th quarter, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Knights went on to win 30 – 24.
It was another balanced scoring attack with seven different players scoring. Kira Doebereiner led the way with eight points, while Nicole Williams and Emily Lima each had six. Sammy Kettler and Taylor Bates scored three, and Rachel Bernard and Jenna Lace each scored two. “This was an intense game from start to finish. I am proud of our team’s effort tonight. They kept their composure when things started to get crazy. All their hard work over the break is paying off,” said Coach Costlow after the game. The Lady Knights resume their schedule Monday, January 9th at Walnut Hills.
Coming off their holiday break, the 8th grade Lady Knights defeated Waynesville 27-6 Tuesday night. It was a great way to start off the new year and gain some momentum going into league play. Kylie Hayes played her best game of the season and was the leading scorer with 8 points. Rachel Bernard had 5, while Emily Lima, Julianna Rizzo, Taylor Bates, Arija Walsh, Jenny Brown, Nicole Williams, and Kylie Clendening each had 2 points apiece. Sammy Kettler and Jenna Lace led the way in free throws and Kira Doebereiner cleaned up the boards. “Tonight was another great team effort. The girls have been working hard over the break, and it showed tonight, ” Coach Costlow said after the game. The Lady Knights are now 5 – 0.
The 8th grade Lady Knights stepped up to tonight’s game on their home court against Wilmington with tenacious defense. Wreaking havoc from the tip-off, the Lady Knights were in control from start to finish with a final score of 33-4. Ten different players scored with Nicole Williams leading the way with 11 points. It was a fantastic display of teamwork as the they worked their offense relentlessly to find the open shot. ”The girls were anxious to play tonight after having a week and a half off from games. I was glad to see all their hard work pay off tonight. They played well,” said Coach Costlow after the game. The Lady Knights hope to continue their streak Thursday night as they take on Nagel.
The 8th grade Lady Knights opened up their season with two wins. On Monday, Nov 28th, the “seniors of the Junior High” beat Walnut Hills 46 – 19. Kira Doebereiner led the way in scoring with 13 points. The girls had a great shooting night with Kylie Clendening, Julianna Rizzo and Nicole Williams all knocking down 3-pointers, and Emily Lima was perfect from the free throw line going two for two. Sammy Kettler, Rachel Bernard and Kylie Hayes had eyes on the passing lanes each giving out two assists. Taylor Bates and Arija Walsh cleaned up the boards together with 10 rebounds between them, while Jenna Lace and Jenny Brown showed their defensive skills by not allowing a post player from Walnut Hills score the entire game.
“The girls played well tonight, and it’s a great way to start off the season,” said Coach Costlow after the game. ”We still have a few kinks to work out, but so far so good.”
The next day saw action against battled Nagel Blue, where they battled and won with a final score of 24 – 17. ”Tonight, our defense won the game,” said Coach Costlow. ”We got some good shots on offense, but they just weren’t falling in the beginning.”
The Lady Knights turned on the defensive pressure forcing turnovers and blocking shots. Sammy Kettler had 2 steals and Kira Doebereiner blocked 4 shots. After that, the offense picked up. Nicole Williams led the scoring effort with 6. Julianna Rizzo added 5 and Jenny Brown 4, while Taylor Bates, Jenna Lace, and Kylie Hayes all scored 2. Rachel Bernard and Emily Lima were a dynamic duo on defense, while Arija Walsh and Kylie Clendening showed poise in their efforts to keep Nagel off the boards.
The Lady Knights continue their season Monday, December 12th when they take on Wilmington at home. GO KNIGHTS!
