It’s Raining Threes!!

The 7th grade Lady Knights lost a tough battle last night to Little Miami.  The Knights sunk more threes than they have ever hit before…7 three pointers!  Despite the rainstorm of threes, the Lady Knights trailed by as much as nine most of the game.  The girls caught fire in the fourth quarter coming up with numerous steals and closing to within two points.  A couple last second shots fell short with a final score of 26-28.  Kelly led the Lady Knights with 14 points, followed by Mackenzie and Laurel with 3, Ashley with 2, and Becca with 1.  Defensive shout out goes to Laurel and Sarah for containing the Little Miami offensive threats.

Two tough games

The 7th grade Lady Knights had two tough games this week.  Monday featured a battle a of defenses as they took on Nagel Silver.  Mackenzie hit a quick three from the top of Nagel’s zone to put Kings out to an early 3-0 lead.  Two baskets by Nagel and a lot of defense by both teams saw the 3-4 score hold through the end of the third quarter!!!  The Lady Knights came out determined to score in the fourth quarter.  Kelly and Michaella sunk a few free throws to tie the game 6-6.  Kelly was able to sink a three in the remaining seconds to solidify a 9-6 win for the Knights.

 The Lady Knights got off to a slow start Thursday night against Wilmington.  Michaella and Erin sunk a couple baskets to keep the game within reach.  The Lady Knights were down 5-12 at halftime.  Wilmington went on a 12-7 run in third quarter.  Baskets were made by Kelly and Ashley.  Trailing 12-24 to start the fourth quarter, the Knights fought hard. Kelly and Laurel sunk a basket each, while Mackenzie drained seven quick points.  The Knights were down by three with under a minute to go.  Unfortunately, we were unable to sink a final three to end 23-26.

The 7th grade Lady Knights defeated first place Glen Este last night 17-15.  Outstanding high pressure defense was played by all.  Scoring for the Knights were Ashley, Kelly, Becca, Mackenzie, and Michaella.

Lady Knights Summary

Little Miami

The Lady Knights were handed their first loss by the quick fast break of Little Miami.  The first quarter displayed a close battle with a bucket by Becca and a three by Mackenzie (5-8).  The second quarter was back and forth as Mackenzie drained another three and Becca another two to keep the Knights within 6 at halftime.  Both teams scored nine points in the third quarter, our offense was led by Juliana, Ashley, Kelly, and Mackenzie.  Little Miami was able to pull away in the fourth quarter with the Lady Knights only converting 1 of 6 free throws.  Final score: 20-30.  Record: 3-1

Nagel Silver

The Lady Knights beat Nagel Silver 24-12.  Buckets by Juliana and Michaella put the Lady Knights ahead early in the first quarter.  Our offense doubled in the second quarter with buckets by Katelyn, Mackenzie, and Kelly to take the girls into halftime with a 12-6 lead.  The Lady Knights kept up the pressure in the second half holding Nagel to just six points.  Second half buckets were added by Juliana, Sarah, Laurel, and Michaella.  The Lady Knights advanced their record to 4-1

Waynesville

What a barn burner!  The Lady Knights came out a bit flat and were quickly trailing 0-7 after the first quarter.  The girls pulled it together and fought hard taking an 8-7 lead at halftime with baskets by Erin, Becca, and Michaella.  The battle continued in the third quarter with Becca draining a two pointer while Mackenzie sunk a three and a free throw to bring the score to 14-15.  The Lady Knights put it into overdrive in the fourth quarter with a three by Kelly while Mackenzie added seven points to solidify a 24-19 win.  The girls played their best game yet tonight!  Record is not 5-1

Loveland

The Lady Knights were excited to face rival Loveland.  The first half saw a back and forth game.  A bucket by Laurel and a few free throws by Michaella and Becca left the Lady Knights only trailing by 3 at halftime (5-8).  A three by Mackenzie and a bucket by Michaella kept the game within four at the end of the third quarter.  The Tigers were able to pull away in the fourth quarter despite offensive efforts by Kelly (3 pt), Mackenzie (3 pt.) and a free throw by Michaella.  The final score was 17-26 bringing the record to 5-2.

Walnut Hills

The Lady Knights jumped out to a quick 12-4 lead behind baskets by Juliana, Laurel, Mackenzie, and Michaella and never looked back.  Mackenzie led the Lady Knights with 15 points, followed by J with 7, Michaella with 5, Laurel with 4, and Ashley, Kelly, and Becca all added two.  The final score was 37-15 bringing the Lady Knights Record to 6-2.

Milford

The Lady Knights were slow to get started against Milford’s high pressure defense.  Untimely turnovers saw Milford jump out to a 14-2 lead (basket by Mackenzie).  The Knights struggled to find the basket in the second quarter but were able to hold Milford to two baskets for a halftime score of 18-2.  The Lady Knights were able to find their offense in the third quarter scoring seven with baskets by Kelly and Michaella.  The fourth quarter boasted an offensive surge with ten points by Juliana, Kelly, Sarah (3 pointer!), Mackenzie, and Michaella to outscore Milford 10-9.  Unfortunately the slow start left the Knights with a 37-19 loss to bring our record to 6-3.

 Nagel Blue

 The Lady Knights played one of their best games and defeated Nagel Blue 18-4.  With aggressive defense the girls surged ahead 8-0 in the first quarter with buckets by Juliana, Becca, Laurel, and Michaella.  The Lady Knights held Nagel Blue scoreless in the second quarter while Sarah helped add to the lead with a bucket.  Nagel Blue came out strong in the second half scoring two buckets; however, the Lady Knights were able to match them offensively with baskets by Laurel and a couple free throws by Mackenzie.  Two baskets by Juliana in the fourth quarter clinched the 18-4 victory for the Lady Knights to bring their record to 7 – 3.

The seventh grade girl’s basketball team kept their undefeated record by defeating Wilmington 22-19 in an exciting last minute win last night.  The Lady Knights were led in scoring by Mackenzie Marcum who hit two huge Three pointers and sank a couple free throws.  Also scoring for the Knights were Kelly Berchtold, Becca Kaiser, Laurel Smithson, and Michaella Ruschau.  The Lady Knights will be back in action tomorrow night as they take on the Panthers from Little Miami.

The Lady Knights got off to a great start last night as they beat Walnut Hills handily.  The girls jumped out to a quick 14-2 lead and never looked back.  Every girl contributed offensively (Katelyn-6, Erin-2, Julianna-6, Ashley-2, Becca-2, Sarah-2, Mackenzie-13, Michaella-8).  The final score was 41-8.  The Lady Knights take on Nagel Blue tonight at Nagel.
