The first couple weeks of Jr. High basketball season have been very exciting for the 7th and 8th grade Lady Knight’s B team. The Knights fell in overtime in its first game of the season to Hamilton County Math and Science 30-28. The Lady Knight was lead by Katelyn Smithberger with 11 points followed by Stacy Stuart and Mackenzie Kruse with 5 and 4 points respectfully. The knights got sweet revenge the following week with an impressive road win 31-25. Jenna Spiros paced the nights with 12 points 8 of them coming in the final quarter.

The B team then traveled to Loveland for a backyard brawl in which the Knights came up a little short with a 30 -24 loss. Jenna Spiros lead the way with 8 points and Smithberger added 6. The knights bounced back with an impressive win on the road against the 7th Grade lady Hawks of Nagel by a score of 19-16. This was a well fought game with a number of lady nights playing tenacious defense lead by Carrisa Freeman, Lanie Gruber and Heather Dale.

Lady Knights Beat the Rams

The Lady Knights move to 3-0 as the beat the Lady Rams on Monday.  Haley Jones ignited the Knights offense early with 4 points in the first quarter (including sinking a baseline jumper while being poked in the eye!).  The Lady Knights were off to a 7-1 first quarter lead.  The Lady Knights kept up the full court pressure to solidify the victory.  Eight Lady Knights scored in the game (Alex, Laura, Haley, Kristen, Alyssa, Katlyn, Christine, and Riley).  Kristen Sevier took home our first BEAST award for her outstanding defensive dive across the floor igniting the crowd!  Way to go Lady Knights!

Lady Knights Varsity Basketball
Home opener vs Monroe 80-21
At Amelia 54-44

Keeping the slate clean!  This week the varsity team played the first home game of the season easily getting past Monroe for an 80-21 victory inwhich every Lady Knight scored.  We were able to see how various combinations work together and it resulted in 4 players leading the way in double figure scoring, Lauren Collier, Megan Fultz, Logan Warye and Katelyn Haralamos.  The rebounding numbers were also dominate, Warye grabbed 14 boards, while Fultz was next with 7 and Phelps with 6.  Most impressive was the defense which kept Monroe from gettng good looks at the basket and offering a great start to the fast break.  It was great to see the usual support of the home crowd!

Our first FAVC match up of the season was an away game at Amelia.  With  new coach and some solid returning players we were handed a challenge early.  The game started quickly and had us a bit on our heals as we were down 0-7 and not getting our defense in sync with the plan we wanted.  After a short timeout to refocus we started playing the defense that is expected with leads to those fast break baskets.  Even though we had a 3 point lead at the half we were shooting under 50% from the free throw line and still working hard to control the boards for rebounds.  Second half stats proved we turned around both of those stats, especially the free throws, 93.3% in second half! Again all 10 players contributed to the win in a signifcant way.  Katelyn Haralamos and Logan Warye were scoring leaders for the game with 14 and 18 points respectively.

Milford Falls to Lady Knights

The Lady Knights beat Milford on Wednesday to advance their record to 2-0.  Emma Bourgraf snagged a couple quick steals and converted them for 6 first quarter points to put the Lady Knights ahead early.  Alyssa Johnson and Riley Brashear kept the offense going for the Knights as they entered the third quarter ahead by three.  Milford pulled out all the stops and pulled within a couple, but the Lady Knights held strong and pulled out an 22-18 win.  Strong defensive efforts by Cara Thomas and Christine Harris helped secure the victory.  Way to go Lady Knights!
