Friday the Knights came into their game with Turpin hoping to separate themselves from the team that recent history suggests will be their primary rival for the FAVC Cardinal crown. They left The Mill with a solid victory, sole possession of first place, and some satisfying momentum heading into their important conference showdown with Wilmington next Friday.

Tuesday the Knights faced a Northwest squad that was winless for the 2007-8 season. With big conference games coming up it was a recipe for oversight, but the Knights stayed focused and pulled out a 61-52 win.
It started ugly, with the Knights missing their first 6 shots and Northwest taking a 4-0 lead. But the Knights toughened up on defense, and managed a 12 to 7 lead at the end of the first quarter, including 8 points from Matt Stevens.

Friday night the Knights beat the Amelia Barons, 70 to 49 in workmanlike fashion. The Knights jumped to a 19 to 4 lead behind 8 first quarter points by Matt Stevens, and never let the gap get below 12. All 14 Knights played, with 9 getting into the scorebook, led by Danny Hagee’s 17 points and 4 rebounds, and Stevens’ 13 points and 6 rebounds.

Friday night the Knights won their first conference game of the season at Walnut Hills, 60 to 46, in one of the loudest and most exciting basketball venues in the area. Tuesday the Knights suffered the worst kind of deja vu… for the second year in a row, the Milford Eagles managed to beat the Knights with a last second buzzer beater. The final was 49 to 47. Box Score
After battling the Eagles on even terms for most of the night, the Knights had fallen behind by 7 with just 3 1/2 minutes to play. But the Knights continued to battle, and when Derrick Harris hit a 3 to tie the game at 47 with 5.8 seconds to play in regulation, the Knights were confident they could take their second straight game into overtime. The Knights pulled out a Saturday night special this weekend, overcoming a 14-point deficit to defeat the Fairfield Indians 64 to 57 in overtime.

The Knights entertained teams from Monroe and Greenfield McClain on Saturday continuing their preparation for next Saturday’s opener. Monroe was a bit depleted by the participation of the football team in the district championships, but the Knights were sufficiently challenged and were able to work on some key aspects of their game. Following the previous night’s Madness, the Knights continued their tough preseason schedule Saturday, challenging teams from Hughes and Wyoming at Hughes High School in Clifton. The Knights were playing with a full deck for the first time - with no players missing for football or injuries - and looked strong, inflicting classic Knights defense on two quick teams… then they capped the morning with Lunch at Max and Erma’s.
The Knights conclude their preseason scrimmage schedule at The Mill next Saturday against Monroe and Greenfield McClain before opening their season on the 24th against the Fairfield Indians.
