The Knights traveled up I-75, on Tuesday evening, to take on the 12-3 Pirates of West Carrollton in a non-league battle. The Pirates came into this game averaging 60 points per game and had scored 70 in two of those games. This game was played under tight security by the First Mates of West Carrollton. No food or drinks were allowed in the gym. A few unsuspecting Knight Fans were visited in the stands by these Defenders of the Pirate Cove and asked to hand over their bounty of food or drink.

The Knights and Pirates both struggled offensively in the opening quarter and the score was knotted, at 7, following the first seven minutes of action. The Knights offense took hold in the second quarter and they jumped out to a nice 17-10 lead as the teams left the gym for half-time refreshments. The Pirates showed that they were not ready to abandon the ship quite yet and came out firing in the third quarter. They held a 26-23 lead as the clocked ticked towards zero, but Tyler Smyth’s three at the buzzer knotted the score at 26 as the teams returned to their respective benches for final quarter instructions. The Knights took charge in the final quarter by outscoring the Pirates 19-11 and took the victory 45-37. The Knights shot an impressive 9 for 11 in the final quarter from the Free Throw Line.

Tyler Smyth led the Knight’s in scoring with 16. Brooks Gear knocked down 8. Andrew Winebrenner nailed 7. Spencer Berlekamp and Phil Fox each netted 6. Kevin Hopperton completed the scoring with 2. The Knights shot a very impressive 12 for 16 from the line (75%) while the Pirates walked the plank in shooting 4 for 9 (44%).  West Carrollton’s Harris had scored 32, 27 and 24 in his last three games. The Knights swarming defense held young Mr. Harris to 10 this evening.

The victory brings the Knights overall season record to 14-4. They will put their  7-1 FAVCC leading record on the line Friday night as the Hurricane of Wilmington come calling. This promises to be an exciting evening of basketball as the varsity game will,  in all likelihood, determine the league championship. Plan on getting to the K-House early for a good seat and root both Knight Teams onto victory.   Tip off is at 6 PM.  Go Knights!
